If there was a King of Comedy award, the recipient would surely be Mel Miller. Timeless, adored, and enormously funny, this giant of stand-up has been tickling the funny bones of South Africans for years and years. Mel has been crossing the (sometimes delicate) lines of age, culture and colour for as long as we can remember; and his audiences continue to thrive on his particular brand of humour. You just can’t help yourself!
You will catch Mel at most of the comedy evenings, performing in the highlight slot to riveted audiences ranging from university students, to young Sandton execs, to the old faithful comedy patrons. Mel works hard to keep his act current, fresh, and in good taste. It seems that this gentle giant of comedy is destined to keep everyone smiling; at the world and at themselves.
Mel’s career has been varied and diverse. He started his public entertaining with a singing group called Mel & Mel with Mel Green, and they were later joined by the well-known Julian Laxton. After working as a solo in Eilat in Israel at a club called “End of the World”, Mel returned to South Africa and began to do stand-up comedy.
Mel performed in various theatre productions as well as popular radio shows like Jet Jungle, The World of Hammond Innes, Marriage Lines and Squad Cars. And who could forget this famous face from the hit TV show, Biltong and Potroast? Perhaps this is when we all fell in love with Mel….
Mel spent almost a decade travelling the Southern Sun Circuit, well received and much loved by all (even in those tenuous pre-Mandela days). Mel has performed at various Smirnoff comedy festivals and toured with many comedy road shows. The list of corporate clients, restaurants, radio & TV shows, pubs and private appearances are too many to mention.
Mel
Miller continues to entertain a rainbow-coloured audience. Listen carefully
to our new comedians; you will see a little bit of Mel in each of them. And
why not? He is, after all, the Master of Comedy!
