The Reflections Story
Founded in 2003 by Raymond Mahlangu, Reflections is a cover band that is a step above the typical bands seen on the local circuit. Where most bands require five or more players, Reflections amazingly, rocks & rolls with only four! Some of the best bands in history have been power trios. Power trios only work with accomplished, talented musicians. Partygoers that witness the spectacle that is “Reflections“ come away awestruck that those four people can put out that much sound and still be tasty, entertaining and fun. Armed with a large vocabulary of pop / jazz & African music styles and melodic sensibility, Raymond brings 13 years of musical experience, arrangement and song writing to the group. On a professional level, he also possesses Leadership, Business Management and Organizational skills.
To form this power trio, Raymond knew he needed some of the best players in the business to compliment and work with. First up was frontline singer George Longani from the best Party and Dance band in Gauteng, Dr Victor & the Rasta Rebels. George’ s twelve years as a vocalist and versatile background gave him the expertise to drive Reflections to a rhythmic frenzy but yet still be sensitive enough to bring out the aural dynamics that are rarely heard with this type of group in this setting. George’s performances are "captivating and mesmerizing" and his skill and execution on vocals is flawless and impeccable, capturing the essence of the meaning of each song.
Next up was percussionist/drummer and programmer extraordinaire, Pedro Williams. Cool and collective, Pedro’s versatile background perfectly accentuates George's rhythmic drive, complimented by very melodic guitar passages and backing vocals. Bringing eleven years of gigging Pedro’s playing can best be described as "driving and thoughtful, powerful and focused". Pedro’s good ear and engineering expertise helps to balance the musical fervour of the rest of the band.
Lindi Maxolo and Thando handle genres as diverse as standard Jazz, Afro Jazz, R&B and pop music with the ease of seasoned professionals. Which is no surprise, considering the list of names they have worked with. They’ve done high profile gigs with the UCT Orchestra, Uct big Band, Malika and The Cape Town Philharmonic, to name a few.
What makes Reflections different from the rest of the other bands out there? One word, TALENT!!!
Reflections is composed of seasoned musicians with backgrounds from all musical styles playing together in a sort of organized chaos. Reflections’ sheer versatility is what sets them apart, far apart from most bands that play the same tired old songs night after night.
