Richard Thompson is an extremely talented and versatile guitarist – in fact – there’s probably little or nothing he can’t do. One of his trademarks is his ability and complete willingness to play almost any request received from his audience.
Richard’s repertoire, probably the biggest in the country, is incredibly vast and diverse, ranging from jazz, to blues, rock & roll, pop, country rock, classic country, reggae, heavy metal – every music genre.
Richard is equally at home with raucous and rowdy students (his favourite), as he is with up-market, Corporate & Black Tie functions.
Richard has been active in the music industry for many years and done extensive studio work both as a session musician and vocalist. He was one of the original members of the Irish band Leprechauns, touring all of Zimbabwe and South Africa with them. He has played with Dad’s Army, Third Eye, Mello & Jive, Georgia, Lance James, and most of South Africa’s top entertainers.
Some of the venues Richard has done (very briefly because there are far too many to mention) are the Royal Swazi Sun, Graceland Casino, Caesar’s Casino, Sun City, Gold Reef City, Bourbon Street in Potch, various Holiday Inns around the country, Foxies, Falcon Crest, Banbury Cross, an impressive stint on the Inhaca Islands, most “hot spots” in Zimbabwe, a residency in Mozambique, a residency in Algiers, a residency in Dubai, another in Oman, (in fact, he has only just come back to South Africa after spending the last 4 years overseas) numerous corporate functions & launches,….the list goes on and on and on …
