BERNY is the band’s frontline female vocalist and started her musical career in 1988 when she played acoustic guitar in a duo for two years. Thereafter followed a three-year stint as a solo performer during which time she even played up until a few hours before the birth of her daughter!!
She then formed a duo called Boney Maroney who enjoyed a lot of success doing functions, pubs and venues such as the Carousel and Sun City. Berny plays guitar and does lead vocals. She gives a gutsy and vibrant performance, showering the audience with her professionalism and sex appeal on stage – a stunning all round entertainer!
ZIZI, a Bulgarian by birth, studied music in Sophia for three years and started playing in an orchestra at the age of eighteen. There followed a couple of years of classical and folk music until he joined a band that travelled extensively in Europe and the Scandinavian countries for seven years. In 1995 he came to South Africa where he eventually teamed up with Berny and Southern Comfort was born. Zizi plays an awesome bass and lead guitar, and shares lead vocals with the band. An extremely talented entertainer, he adds a funky and pleasantly offbeat flavour to the band.
CEDRIC WESSELS needs absolutely no introduction as far as the music scene goes. He has entertained extensively both locally and internationally and played with most of SA’s top celebrity entertainers. He joins Southern Comfort sharing lead vocals with Berny and Zizi, doing monstrous renditions of songs from Barry White, through to an almost impossible to believe version of Stairway to Heaven – a feat not many musicians are able to pull off believably! The bongo drums add a lively dimension to the music.
